This beautiful scene is a vivid example of trompe-l'œil (optical illusion) - an optical illusion of moving an image from the plane of the plate inwards, profoundly. The work is from the 19th century and is based on an etching which can be seen in the Statens museum. The work has been signed but the signature is difficult to assign. It is painted on a tin plate. The frame was completely sanded and provided with gold color. The frame was left open at the back. There are two small spots on the work (see photos). We had this work assessed by an external expert.
