A Japanese Ivory carved Okimono from around 1890, 19the century.
Image of the six Japanese poets. The Okimono is 38 mm high, 42 mm wide and has a thickness of 33 mm.
The Okimoni weighs 23 grams.
The Okimono is skillfully carved out of ivory. Perfectly captured facial expressions, beautifully detailed.
The Okimono is signed (carved) at the bottem Isseisai Naomitsu 政齋 直光 , a small paper with the name Noamitsu can also be found on the bottem (from the previous owner).
Naomitsu Isseisai lived from 1868 to 1931 and carved first in coral, later in wood and ivory.
Another work from this carver was found in wood (see picture). This is a piece in wood that probably was carved as a prestudy model for the ivory one.
