A Japanese wood carved lacquered Netsuke from the Meiji period mid 19th century.

Netsuke of a man holding a dog. The netsuke is 72 mm high, 26 mm wide and has a thickness of 31 mm.

The Netsuke weighs 16 grams and it has a Kakihan at the back.  This Kakihan is identified as the Kakihan from  Itchiku 一竹 (page 1280 NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS, and How to Read Their Signatures by George Lazarnick).

The netsuke is skillfully carved out,  beautifully detailed.  Some small gold remains of gold paint can be found at the bottom and the back of the netsuke.

Itchiku was a mid 19the century netsuke carver who mainly carved in wood.
