Armand Apol

Armand-Adrien-Marie (Armand) Apol born in Brussels, 1879 and died there in 1950, was a Belgian painter, etcher and lithographer of post-impressionism. He painted landscapes, old city corners and seascapes in an impressionistic-realistic style. Sun-drenched peaks alternate with picturesque city neighborhoods or with turbulent seas.Apol worked a lot in picturesque old towns and villages like Bruges, Mechelen or Lissewege, where he got his inspiration. But also on the banks of streams and rivers, along the North Sea beach and our port cities, he planted his donkey. Sea, fishing boats and the port company were grateful motives for his smooth brush.Apol was also a skilled graphic artist (etchings and lithographs) who, in addition to his own compositions, also produced copies of works by other masters, among others from Valerius De Saedeleer.
