Johannes Marie Christiaan Asselbergs
The painter Johannes Marie Christiaan Asselbergs was born in 1937 in Ned. India. His life can no doubt be called colorful. It is characterized by highs and lows. In his homeland he survived as a child the Japanese camps. Before he finally chose painting, Jan Asselbergs was a singer, composer, journalist, musician and troubadour. Nowadays, Asselbergs is known as a portraitist in which figurative and abstract elements are interconnected. He portrayed among others Queen Beatrix, Monique van der Ven and Ruud Lubbers. Besides portraits, he also made landscapes, flower still lifes and various other genres. A monograph has appeared about his work and life, revealing more than ever that life and work are inextricably linked to this remarkable artist.
