Hans Ittmann was born in 1914 and died in 1972 in Amsterdam. He studied law, to be able to take over the notary office of his father. He started painting next to his studies. Eventually he broke off his studies. He studied the sculptor Cephas Stauthamer. He became a member of De Onafhankelijken. After the Second World War he studied with a scholarship from the French government from 1946 to 1948 at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he followed lessons at Gimondeau and afterwards he worked for a year in the workshop of Ossip Zadkine.This artist initially worked figuratively, but developed an abstract style over the years.
